Janis Schmees, CSEE has been the CEO of the Harris County—Houston Sports Authority since 2006. She became the third chief executive and the first woman to hold the position since the inception of the organization in 1997.  Under her leadership, Houston has been awarded major sporting events including several U.S. Olympic Trials, numerous National and World Championships, the AAU Junior Olympics and the 2017 Super Bowl.
 
Ms. Schmees has been recognized by Conference USA and Rice University for her outstanding contributions and achievements as a woman in the Houston sports industry. She has also been acknowledged as a "Woman on the Move" by the Texas Women's Association and most recently was named as one of "Houston's 50 Most Influential Women" by Houston Woman Magazine.

The purpose of The Professional Group is to provide women of diverse professions with opportunities for building relationships and networks of personal and business associations through informative monthly presentations, professional development programs, educational and social activities, and philanthropic endeavors.
