About this event

What Makes a Good Photograph?

Michael Hart, Professional Photographer

Michael Hart photographed an NBA game at the age of eight with a Brownie Holiday Flash camera while living in Fort Wayne, IN. He completed his first paid assignment at age 14, when the whole world was still in black and white!

He has had a commercial photography business in Houston, TX., since the late 70’s and regularly travelled the globe doing annual reports and other assignments for corporations, design firms and ad agencies, traveling to 35 countries and racking up a million and a half air miles in the process.

While still fulfilling commercial assignments his primary focus is now on his personal photography, which is driven by a deep appreciation for design and composition, where every frame is carefully crafted to balance form, light, and space.

His book, Biggio: The Final Game is in the library at The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY., and an image from it is in the Sonia and Kaye Marvins Portrait Collection at The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.

Recent awards and exhibitions include the Communication Arts Photography Annual; 11th Annual Allegany National Photography Competition and Exhibition; The SE Center for Photography “Shades of B&W,” “The Contemporary Landscape,” and “The Membner’s Show; The Black and White Spider Awards; Texas Photographic Society “TPS 32:The International Competition,” “Foto Texas III,” and The TPS 37 Annual Members Only Show; The Visual Arts Alliance “40th Juried Juried Open Exhibition,” The International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum “Black and White and Monochrome” Exhibition, “Water” at The A.Smith Virtual Gallery in Johnson City, TX., APA Los Angeles’ “Off The Clock” Exhibit in 2025; Two images in The International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum Virtual Exhibit “Vision and Viewpoint;” two images in the A. Smith Gallery online exhibition “Trees;” The New York Center for Photographic Art “Urban Suburban, Rural;” and two images in The Art League of Baytown’s FotoFest 2026 Exhibition.

Michael and his wife, well-known vocalist Sharon Montgomery, live in The Heights with their dog, Popi.
