Please join us to listen to the experiences of Diana Untermeyer and her intimate knowledge of Qatar as the Cultural Advisor to the Qatar-America Institute (QAI).
She lived in Doha, Qatar, from 2004–2007 while her husband Chase Untermeyer served as U.S. ambassador. In Qatar she was active with women’s and children’s programs and in the conservation, arts and health communities. Diana participated in numerous equestrian sports and won top rider for the 2006-2007 endurance season.
Her book, Qatar: Sand, Sea, and Sky was published in 2011. Currently, she serves on the board of Houston Civic Events and on the Leadership Cabinet, The Hackett Center at The Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute.
Before leaving for Qatar, Diana served as director of communications for Christ Church Cathedral in Houston, Texas. She served on the boards of the Houston Zoo, Zoo Friends of Houston, Inc., and the Hermann Park Conservancy.
Diana was graduated in 1984 with a B.A. from the University of Virginia and is a member of the Raven Society, Phi Beta Kappa, and Delta Delta Delta sorority. After graduation, she worked as a wilderness guide, a liaison between the Vice President’s office and the Presidential Task Force on Regulatory Relief, an advance representative for then-Vice President and Mrs. Bush, and later as executive assistant to the counsel to President George H.W. Bush.
She and Chase have one daughter, Elly, and live in Houston.
